Elizabeth Sanders, 1916-2003, Warrensburg

Elizabeth Sanders, 87, of Warrensburg, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her home.

She was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Lawrence, Kan., a daughter of James Blaine and Hattie Rose Wiggins. On Oct. 30, 1948, in Lawrence, Kan., she was married to Charles Harold Sanders, who died May 18, 1997.

Mrs. Sanders was a 1934 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a degree in home economics education from Kansas University in 1938 and a master's degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. She taught from 1938 to 1948 at Matfield Green, Hanover Oberlin, Harper, Kansas State Teacher's College and Pittsburg schools, all in Kansas, and at Central Missouri State University. She was a 4-H leader. She was a member of Eldorado Saddle Club, West Central Missouri Genealogical Society, Good Neighbors Extension Club, Soil Conservation Society and First Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda McMaster, of Peculiar, Ann Brookhart, of Durham, N.C., and Marilyn Jessup, of Warrensburg; a sister, Bernice Knox, of Valley Falls, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, with the Rev. Bob Ingle officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Baum, Tim Bernt, George Hackler, Justin Jessup, Jerry McMaster and Brandon Meyers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Bernt, Lester and Louella Dittmer, D.W. and Esther Lowry, Flo Mullis, Harry and Maryanne Savery, Emerson and Kathryn Smith and Ray and Frances Swisher. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Community Rose Garden or to the West Central Missouri Genealogical Society in care of the funeral home.
